My kids (ages 7 and 5) received this as a gift and loved it! We take the binoculars on short hikes. I bought it again to give as a birthday present to my son's friends.
We love having this in our house, and keep the binoculars by the window and our eyes peeled for new finds. This is a great gift for our whole family, but our 5 year old is pretty excited about it. She definitely recognizes birds while out and about and it has made for many fun (and long!) nature walks around our neighborhood.
This is a great guide for a lower elementary student (k-3). It is written at a younger grade level so younger readers can read it on their own. It has page after page of great, colorful photos and interesting details to learn about different sorts of birds. I think this book is a great guide to help children unlock the power of observation. It comes with a set of binoculars. We are taking this book and binoculars with us on vacation to Hawaii so we can try our hand at observing birds on the island!
As part of our homeschool science lessons, my daughter and I are starting a unit on birds in the next few weeks. The Look and Learn Birds kit from PBS Kids is a perfect addition to my lessons. The books is full of beautiful photos and illustrations that are perfect for kids aged 4 and older. My daughter has been reading on her own for about six months now, and she can already read a lot of the text by herself. My toddler son also loves looking at all the pictures of the birds. The laminated ID list is super handy for identifying the birds that my kids and I can see right from our front window. The full-color post will make a great educational activity during one of our upcoming homeschool lessons on birds. Finally, my daughter is super excited about the binoculars. She loves peering through our front picture window, trying to spot birds and other animals around the neighborhood. My son also loves copying his sister with the easy-to-use binoculars. Overall my kids and I are super excited about the PBS Kids Look and Learn Birds kit! I received a kit in exchange for my honest opinion.
