How the Woman at the Well Became the Well Woman A Memoir of an Extraordinary Ordinary Life Donna Rhodes Amanda Capps Dan Fowler Michael Seymour 9780692727379 Books Reviews
How the Woman at the Well became the Well Woman is a captivating read. I could not put it down. My heart broke reading so many challenges in her life and those that failed her. What a beautiful testimony of God's amazing grace and the author's thirst for God's truth and love. This book had me at the title!
How the Woman at the Well Became the Well Woman, God is good all the time and all the time God is good. As I read her book it was hard to put down because I would put myself in her shoes and with the hardships of her life and how looking back on my own life helped me to realize just how much God is good even in the time of our deepest sorrows. We all have a story to share and it's not always easy to go down that road but Donna was able to share hers as you were her. That's a Blessing from God.
I started reading this book on our back deck at 1030 in the morning and I didn't leave until the book was finished! Donna's story was completely captivating. With each page my heart hurt for her and yet was hopeful at the same time! I knew there had to be a "turning point" in this remarkable survivor's life. I would encourage everyone to read this book, especially if you've ever thought "things can never change, I am doomed to repeat my family's history."
A story that grips the heart and haunts your mind until that last word. The author writes about her journey in life, the roads she chose and the consequences that came. The twist comes when she finds genuine love, redemption, and grace.
The Woman at the Well Who became the Well Woman has truly set me free from a past that I didn't realize I was still holding onto. The pages of the book are damp from tears that flowed from my eyes. Even though I know that Jesus Christ paid my debt in full, the author, Donna Rhodes, helped me to see the true Greatness of God's Grace and Mercy.
I purchased this book because I knew the author, Donna Rhodes. I started reading it out of respect for her and her work. As I read I forgot the Donna I knew, the one who says "to God be the glory". I met another Donna; one who had been unwanted, unloved, abused and misguided. Who had made bad choices but kept seeking a better way. Therein lies the miracle of the new Donna. As she was seeking, she was also being sought. Sought by a loving God who met her where she was in all the messiness of her life and made her a new creation. If you like miracles, you will love this book, even if you have never heard of Donna Rhodes.
I could not put this book down and stayed up until 2 a.m. to finish it. It's an amazing, inspiring and riveting tale about a woman who, through the grace of God and by turning her heart and soul to Jesus, experienced transformation and hope. She went from a tragic, difficult upbringing of poverty, struggle and strife (identifying with the sin-crippled Woman at the Well) to a beautiful walk with God and a deep commitment to shining His light so others can know His peace (a well woman). I recommend this book wholeheartedly.
